So in between working on the sequel to “The Liberty Box” (which doesn’t yet have a name)… oh, and planning a wedding (getting married in two weeks!!) and moving into a new place this weekend, I was supposed to release a book under my real name on naturopathic medicine.
I thought this would be no big deal.
I wanted to expedite the process because I got a call from this marketing company who told me, “We can help you write online quizzes, and it’ll grow your email subscriber list to 10,000+ people in a couple of months! We had this other doctor who worked with us, and her book hit New York Times! If you want to be on the ground floor, it’ll only cost $99!” (Per month.) I was already hooked before he threw this bit in, thinking I’d be a beta user and get it for free… but by then, I pulled out my credit card.
(Sucker? Perhaps.)
So that made me want to crank out the book to time it for the release of their quiz software, which I thought would be the beginning of the year, but turns out to be at the end of January (while I’m on my honeymoon.) Then of course I had to write the quiz, which I still haven’t done…
Anyway, the book has been up for preorder for a few weeks, but because I was really nervous about this one, since I’d rushed it and all, I kept it on the DL. I also finally learned how to format e-books and paperbacks on Scrivener in my spare time too, instead of paying somebody else to do it. I am happy to report that after much blood, sweat, and tears, I managed to achieve that feat. I’d therefore been frantically editing it on my phone, in between patients and at the gym. I had JUST finished, when two editors both told me that 1) I use too much medical jargon and I need to explain it more (which will require another read-through,) and 2) I need an index or glossary because people aren’t going to want to sit down and read this straight through; it’s too dense.
(I JUST learned to format on Scrivener. Barely. Almost threw my wine glass across the room at one point, I was so frustrated, too. A glossary? This is not in their help menu.)
Sigh. So I will let the thing quietly publish tonight and then pull it down, to work on later (maybe in a few months! ha) and make it better.
Oh, and I’m starting a podcast too, have I mentioned this?
Sometimes I am such a moron. I teach people about balance. This BOOK is about balance, for heaven’s sake…
