This was almost as enjoyable as the original! The author really captured the characters of Elizabeth and Darcy, as well as all of the supporting cast. This felt like an alternate-universe take on what might have happened, had Elizabeth not immediately rejected Darcy when he first proposed. The story opens right after that, and we see a more circumspect Elizabeth considering the pros and cons carefully (which really is more realistic for her situation, though less dramatic.) From there, all the same information eventually comes out, though in dribs and drabs, over the course of their short engagement (which takes up the rest of the book). The tension between them is very well done –watching Darcy eat his heart out as Elizabeth fell for him in painstaking slow motion was delicious, and I just loved the fact that the book was clean (unlike almost any similar story set today would have been)! Will keep an eye out for anything else by this author.
