Types of books I consider:
- Audiobooks only—sorry! I listen while I drive, work out, cook, get ready for work, etc. Much as I still love physical books, I just don’t have time to read them anymore.
- Query first. I am open to both traditionally published, and self-published books (provided the latter are professionally edited). Please email me at authorcagray1@gmail.com with a brief synopsis of your book, plus the first 1000 words or so (ideally in a PDF so I can read it on my kindle while I’m at the gym!) If I’m hooked, I’ll message you back and request the audio code. Also, I’ll warn you now: I have a short attention span. (Not proud of it; it’s just the truth.) If I start listening to your book and get bored, I’ll stop listening and won’t review it. I will give my honest opinion on my blog and podcast, but I’ll only post reviews for books I can honestly rate 3 or higher (any less than that and I’ll probably stop listening anyway.)
- Clean books only please! While I respect your right to write any sort of media you wish, I don’t choose to read those with explicit sex scenes, abundant f-bombs, gratuitous violence, or any overt political agendas.
- Favorite genres: young adult, middle grade, and new adult. Within those, I especially enjoy the fantasy, sci fi, and dystopian sub-genres, as that is what I write myself. I have been known to listen to history, biography, mythology, fairy tales, occasional romance (but if there’s too much insta-love I’ll probably roll my eyes and stop listening), and occasional mysteries, suspense, and thrillers. I generally don’t prefer religious fiction because it tends to be heavy-handed and preachy, but if yours isn’t, I’m willing to give it a try. I don’t like being scared, so please don’t send me horror (unless it’s more paranormal than horror, which I can handle.
