My Review of “The Bad Beginning”: 4 Stars
Love the prose, the tongue-in-cheek way he stops to define any big words, and the way he translates baby-talk into complex sentences… so dry and witty!
I did, however, stop reading as soon as the author gave the disclaimer that the story will not end happy and if you want a happy ending, stop now. (I like happy endings.) Some of the subject matter I thought was a little intense for a children’s book… implied/threatened pedophilia for instance… but if you could overlook that, it was very entertaining.
