Still my all-time favorite series… but I already had the previous audiobook version, and I also had the movies. Why did I need another version, I wondered?
The reason: even though the narrator for the entire series was amazing, there is something about the full cast that does make it come alive even more. It’s like watching the movie, but every last detail is in there, rather than the much shorter version necessary for theatrical release. There’s full studio sound effects, too (though at times I thought this detracted a bit, as the sound effects weren’t well balanced with the narrator, and almost drowned her out). I also listen a lot on headphones where only one of them works (I purposely haven’t replaced them, bc this means it’s easier for other people to get my attention while I listen to something if need be). But I noticed that sometimes audio for a given character would only come out one side or the other, and I’d miss what was said. Didn’t really matter though, since I know this story like the back of my hand.
